1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.
The discussion, prior to watching The Graduate, tells us that the movie was made differently than movies past. Movies had always been made for a particular audience, the older audience who grew up watching "clean" movies. This is not the case for The Graduate, for this movie was made for the younger baby boomers who had different views than their parents. This film was made for the youth who wanted a raunchier movie, a film that represented what they wanted to see which was rebellion, sex, a good music. This film could only be made in the 60's, because the old censorship program would have condemned it completely.

2) Find a related article (on the film, director, studio, actor/actress, artistic content, etc.)

and summarize the content. You may use the library or the internet.

The article begins by remember the director of the Graduate, Mike Nichols, who died last week. It then goes into the idea of remaking the movie. Not obly do I believe this is a bad idea due to it actually being another remake of a classic, but because it would not work today. I believe that this generation believes less in the idea of "selling out" than the idea of working. The reason why the Graduate worked is because the economy was so good, today that really is not the case. A job is a job and if the movie were to be remade most of its key concepts would fly over the heads of the targeted audience.
Cite the article or copy the url to your journal entry. Summarize in your own words the

related article but do not plagiarize any content.

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class. How did the article support or
change the way you thought about the film, director, content, etc.?

The article only supplemented what was discussed in class. I do however now see the generational gap between the baby boomers and the generation that is graduating today. The graduating class of today will go out and work where as the graduating class of the movie wanted to do what they wanted to do.

4) Write a critical analysis of the film, including your personal opinion, formed as

a result of the screening, class discussions, text material and the article. I am less

interested in whether you liked or disliked a film, (although that can be part of this) than I

am in your understanding of its place in film history or the contributions of the director. The film is an all around great film.

The plot pulls in a new audience of viewers with a storyline that holds the ideals of these new viewers at hand. The only change I would personally make would be to put more songs into the film rather than three dragged out songs.
